European Marine Energy Centre

EMEC is an innovation catalyst pioneering the transition to a clean energy future.

As the world’s first and leading facility for testing wave and tidal technologies at sea, spanning components, tools and subsystems to full-scale demonstration, EMEC supports projects with their operational, metocean, environmental and consenting needs.

To date, more marine energy converters have been deployed at EMEC’s sites than any other single site in the world.

EMEC is also leading innovation projects exploring floating wind, the integration of renewables, green hydrogen, storage, e-fuels and islands decarbonisation.

WavEC Offshore Renewables

WavEC Offshore Renewables is a Portuguese non-profit research organization with the mission to develop offshore renewable energy through the creation and transfer of knowledge, innovation, and dissemination.

The private association was founded in 2003 aiming to develop wave energy and support companies and research centres in the area, through technical and political strategies, however, over the years the association saw an extension of activities into offshore wind and prospect of expansion to other fields. More recently, WavEC are extending the scope of activities to offshore aquaculture and ocean engineering projects.

Indeximate

Indeximate are a rapidly scaling climate data company, laser focused on extending lifetimes of undersea cables through structural health monitoring. They utilise their expertise in Distributed Fibre Optic Sensing to extract meaningful insights from rich, but complex, data sources.

Utilising their proprietary compression technique and state-of-the-art Scattersphere interface, Indeximate are able to identify both short and long-term trends experienced by cables and highlight risks before they become critical. In the FOREST consortium, Indeximate lead the Optical Sensing Work Package, delivering cable monitoring and orthogonal data products.

Intelligent Plant

Intelligent Plant is specialised in industrial data. The platform, the Industrial App Store, contains applications designed to optimise assets through greater insight into process data.

AI innovation has been a key focus for Intelligent Plant, building machine learning tools to identify operational deviations and maximise energy production. Recent work includes a feasibility study looking at Explainable AI for improved decision making in hydrogen production. Currently, the company is developing AI systems that use Model Context Protocol and LLMs for better interaction between the operator and real-time process data.

National Renewable Energy Centre

The National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain (CENER) develops applied research in renewable energies, and provides technological support to companies and energy institutions in five areas: wind, solar thermal and photovoltaic solar energy, biomass, energy transition in cities, and grid integration, electrical storage and hydrogen.

The aim of the CENER Wind Energy Department is to develop applied research activities and provide technical advice in the wind energy field, offering services to all the players in the sector, such as: promoters, manufacturers, financial entities, operators, public administrations and associations. The aim is to improve the efficiency and therefore the competitiveness of an ever-changing sector.

SubConnected

SubConnected AB is a Swedish based system integrator specializing in the design and installation of super dynamic inter arrays to connect Floating Wind, Wave, Tidal and Solar devices to the grid. Working with our partners and using a patented spar hub, SubC’s system connects multiple devices.

Fully tested and grid connected for 4000 hours with a WEC at Runde in 2017 the cable system is still operational 8 years on. Now SubC are developing 33kV and 66kV versions of the super dynamic cable and hub for FLOW, Wave and Tidal devices. SubC offers a complete array solution including easy deployment, dry connections, long life and low maintenance.

Apollo

Apollo’s PALM Quick Connection System (QCS) is a plug-and-socket solution that enables fast, safe connection and disconnection of floating offshore renewable energy devices from their dynamic electrical cables. Designed for ruggedness in the marine environment, the PALM QCS removes the need for personnel transfer, duplicated pull-in equipment or the use of divers, reducing vessel time, cost and risk.

Proven through offshore trials and ready for commercial deployment, PALM QCS supports efficient maintenance and tow to port operations, helping reduce cost in floating offshore renewables.
